| In the beginning
there were but two vacant rooms under our new living quarters at 198
Main Street. In November of 2000, an artist and friend said "this
space is ideal for a gallery and studio!" The space had recently
been vacated and needed to be filled in any case. There was a large
window fronting Main Street, a well-lit front room with plenty of
wall space, and a space in back with three windows and a bathroom.
When I became convinced of the sanity of the idea,
and that I wanted to spend my time running a gallery, I asked eight
other artists if they wanted to rent space in the studio. Six said
"yes," and that was enough to finance the beginning of
The Main Gallery & Studio. The rent keeps things going while
we try to sell paintings and other works of art, some made by us,
and some made by other local artists.
All work is original. No prints, no copies, no
reproductions, only originals by artists in the tri-state area.
And the friend who suggested the gallery? That
was Linda Pratt, who became one of the artists sharing space in
the studio. The studio has been a delightful adventure. The seven
of us critique each others' work, we criticize, advise, laugh, solve
world problems, eat stuff we should and shouldn't, support each
other, and haven't pulled any hair yet. We plan to continue to grow
and support local art and artists.
